MOUNT VERNON – Beloit applied the pressure early and the Rams never fully recovered in Saturday's 4-1 women's soccer loss, marking the Midwest Conference opener for both teams.
The Buccaneers (2-7-2 overall, 1-0 MWC) managed only four shot attempts in the first half, although two of them went for goals in the initial three minutes as the visitors raced to a quick 2-0 lead.
Beloit struck again early in the second half and added a fourth tally with 1:22 remaining in regulation.
Junior
Gwen Westervelt accounted for Cornell's lone goal in the 86th minute. Westervelt's only shot of the day was her sixth goal of the season.

Adde Sawyer logged all 90 minutes and carded six saves, including five in the second half.
The Rams (1-8 overall, 0-1 MWC) totaled five shots, two coming from
Eva Plathe.
Elissafe Moreno and
Krystin Kamrath added one attempt apiece.
