GRINNELL – Cornell's women's basketball team endured a third-quarter lull that was the difference in Tuesday's 62-50 Midwest Conference setback to Grinnell at Darby Gym.
The Rams (3-2 overall, 0-1 MWC) returned from a 15-day layoff from competition and stayed even with Grinnell (3-6 overall, 1-1 MWC) for a half, at 30-30.
Grinnell gained control with a 16-0 run to start the third quarter. The Pioneers hit four 3-pointers during the game-turning stretch and outscored the Rams 19-4 in the period.
The Rams placed three scorers in double figures, led by
Erin Knowles' 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field. First-year
Kallynn Stroup came off the bench for a season-high 12 points, while
Heidi Jorgensen pitched in 10.
Savanna Robinson collected five of Cornell's 15 steals.
Penley Park grabbed five boards.
Grinnell shot 10-of-28 from 3-point range and held a 42-28 rebounding advantage.
Coming up – The Rams play host to defending MWC champion Ripon (6-2 overall, 1-0 MWC) at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
