MOUNT VERNON – The indoor track and field season got underway Friday night with the Rams hosting the Cornell Winter Classic inside Small Sport Center Arena.
Cornell's men started out the season in record-breaking fashion. Junior
Hadley Beaty set the 60-meter dash school record with a time of 6.97. He broke Husani Newbold's mark of 6.99, set in 2017.
Senior
Isaac vanWestrienen continued his record-breaking career, breaking his own record in the 3000-meter run finishing in 8:03.81. His previous record of 8:09.42 was set early this year.
Cornell's men and women combined for 10 event titles at the three-team home meet. Along with the victories from Beaty and vanWestrienen, the Rams picked up individual wins from
Brody Williams in the shot put (44' ½"),
Chase Staker in the 200 (22.98) and
Jensen Meeker in the 800 (1:58.82).
On the women's side, freshman
Ryleigh Storjohann finished first in the 200 with a time of 28.77. Freshman
Jayda Carnes won the 400 in 1:02.42.
Murray Page took first in the mile (5:57.78) and
Carley Seeley won the 3000 (11:04.66).
The 4x400 relay team of
Alexa Hugart, Carnes, Page and Storjohann finished the evening off by taking first with a time of 4:29.38
