MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's men's basketball team couldn't get its shots to fall in Saturday's 62-53 Midwest Conference loss to Ripon at the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
Despite a tough shooting day, the Rams (0-8 overall, 0-2 MWC) hung around and pulled within 37-36 on a
Keon Talgo 3-pointer with 13:01 to go. The Red Hawks (2-7 overall, 2-0 MWC) responded with 11 unanswered points over the next four minutes and kept Cornell at a distance down the stretch.
Ripon hit three 3-pointers during the decisive run and finished with 11 for the game. Cornell managed to connect on only 5-of-31 attempts from beyond the arc.
The Rams, held to 32.1-percent shooting from the field, received 10 points apiece from freshmen
Jude Weaver and
Daniel Taylor. In his first extensive action as a Ram, Taylor was a spark off the bench with 3-of-4 shooting from the field while going 3-of-4 from the foul line.
Freshman
Luke Hellige totaled seven points and a team-high seven rebounds for Cornell, which won the battle on the boards, 41-32.
Cornell limited Ripon's season scoring leader Seth Bunders to five points. The Red Hawks had four other scorers reach double figures, led by Michael Asman's 15 points.
Coming up – The Rams are idle until Dec. 18, when they take on North Park at 4 p.m. in Chicago, Ill.
