WAUKESHA, Wis. – Cornell's men's lacrosse team rallied for five fourth-period goals, although came up short in a 7-5 season-opening loss to Carroll at Schneider Stadium.
The Rams trailed 5-0 to start the fourth period. Cornell scored the first four goals of the final period to pull within 5-4 of Carroll with 11:29 to go in the game.
Ash Hoelscher started the scoring run for Cornell. Hoelscher's goal came 23 seconds into the period on assist from
Brandon Warnke.
Charley Kobets followed that with back-to-back scores and
Torii Greiskalns ended the surge with a goal and plenty of time left in regulation.
Following Cornell's rally, Carroll (1-0) answered with two goals.
Tyler Foster finished off the scoring for the Rams with 2:37 remaining.
Cornell (0-1) was led in scoring with two goals from Kobets, the team's top scorer a year ago. Greiskalns had a strong game with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Cornell held a 38-25 advantage in ground balls.

Kayden Kuan each picked up four ground balls.
Thomas Cook had 12 saves, with Carroll taking 19 shots on goal. Cornell had 11 shots on goal.
