MADISON, Wis. - The Cornell men's tennis team traveled to Wisconsin for two dual matches on Saturday afternoon. The Rams blanked Simpson College 7-0 to begin the day, and followed suit with another rout against host Edgewood College, 7-0, at Nielsen Tennis Stadium at the University of Wisconsin.
The Rams quickly grabbed the doubles point against Simpson, thanks to identical 6-2 wins by
Trent Devore/
Mills Arnold at No. 1, and
August Krahn/
Sam Cumicek at No. 2. Facing a 2-5 deficit, No. 3 tandem of
JJ White/
Lincoln Rener mounted the comeback to a 7-5 victory to complete the sweep.
Devore,
Zachary Ong,
Drew Campbell,
Edwin Holyoake, Cumicek, and
Evan Davis all took straight set singles wins over the Storm finshing out a dominant first match of the day.
Against Edgewood, the Rams claimed the doubles point for the fourth time in five outings this season. Devore/Arnold won 6-1 at No. 1, along with Krahn/Campbell earning a 6-2 win at No. 3.
Cornell won five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Holyoake closed out a narrow victory at No. 5 against the Eagles to give the Rams the sweep of the dual.
Devore enjoyed a 4-0 day individually, while Campbell, Arnold and Krahn also went 3-0 on the weekend each.
Coming up - The Rams return home to their home courts next Saturday, Feb. 15, hosting University of Dubuque (9 a.m.) and Coe College (4 p.m.).
