MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's women's basketball team sank a season-high 13 3-pointers in Saturday's 72-49 runaway victory over Midwest Conference foe Beloit inside the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
The Rams (12-8 overall, 8-4 MWC) kept a hold of fourth place in the league race with four games to go.
Sophomore
Heidi Jorgensen led Cornell's 3-point barrage, draining 5-of-7 shots from distance. She finished with 15 points, one shy of the season high she set in a December win over the same Beloit team (2-20 overall, 1-12 MWC).
The hot-shooting Rams connected at a 44.8-percent clip from 3-point land, making 13-of-29 attempts. Cornell had seven players hit a three, including three by
Tenley Cavanagh who finished with nine points.
The MWC's leading scorer
Erin Knowles netted 15 points on efficient 5-of-8 shooting from the floor. The freshman jumped to ninth place on Cornell's single-season scoring list with 369 points.
Reagan Wells dished a team-high five assists to go with eight points.
Maya Hodge handed out four assists. Knowles added three steals.
Rylee VanDresar paced the team with five rebounds.
The Rams closed out the first half on an 8-0 run to take a 34-19 lead into the break. Cornell stretched the margin to 53-24 late in the third quarter on a bucket by Knowles.
Coming up – The Rams travel to play first-place Ripon (17-4 overall, 11-1 MWC) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Ripon, Wis. The Red Hawks won the first meeting, 73-47.
