WHITTIER, Calif. – Cornell's batting lineup collected double-digit hits for the fifth time this season, although the Rams couldn't slow down host Whittier in Monday's 10-6 baseball loss at Mendez Stadium.
Vince Zipperer and
Esteban Perez both went 3-for-4 at the plate to pace the Rams (3-5), who totaled 12 hits in the contest. Whittier (4-8) clubbed 15 hits, including a pivotal three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning the provided the final scoring margin.
Zipperer scored his second run of the game on an RBI single by
Collin Severson that brought the Rams within 7-6 in the top of the sixth.
The Rams built an early 4-2 lead during a four-run second inning.
Joseph Lomeli doubled home two runs, while
Brendan Alvarez and
Ryan Weaver also had RBI hits in the frame.
Cornell's
Grant Morris and
Agustin Velazquez combined to throw 1.2 scoreless innings in relief to finish the game.
