ORLANDO, Fla. - In a very busy final day of spring break, sophomore
Mills Arnold capped off an impressive 4-0 day, while Cornell's men's tennis team played a triple header on Tuesday, winning two of the three duals. The Rams fell to Marymout University 4-3, and defeated LaGrange College 5-2, as well as Marywood University 7-0.
The Rams (10-5) opened up against Marymount in the morning. Competing in singles first due to court space,
Zachary Ong at No. 2,
Drew Campbell at No. 3 and
Mills Arnold at No. 4 garnered three matches for the Rams going into doubles play.
Needing two of the three doubles matches to clinch, Cornell came up just short in the end with Marymount winning at No. 2 and No. 3.
Trent Devore and Arnold provided the lone doubles victory at No. 1, 6-1 in dominating fashion.
In the second match of the day against LaGrange, the Rams regained the doubles point by winning at three matches. Devore & Arnold at No. 1 (7-5), Ong and Sam Cumicek at No. 2 (6-2) and August Krahn & Campbell at No. 3 (6-0) tallied wins.
Cornell kept the momentum going and won four of the singles matches to clinch the dual. Ong and Campbell provided straight set wins at No. 2 and No 3, while Arnold and Krahn needed an extra third set for their decisions at No. 4 and No. 6 respectively.
Against a short handed Marywood squad in the final match of the day, the Rams left little doubt, cruising to a sweep. No. 1 doubles pair of Evan Davis and JJ White grabbed a 6-4 win, while Eric Dirksmeyer & Benett Gregor powered through for a 6-2 win of their own.
The Rams won all five contested singles matches in straight sets. Davis at No. 1 (7-5 6-3), Gregor at No. 2 (6-1 6-1), Lincoln Rener at No. 3 (6-2 6-2), Dirksmeyer at No. 4 (6-1 6-2), and JJ White at No. 5 (6-0 6-0) tallied victories for Cornell.
