ORLANDO, Fla. – Cornell sophomore
Mac Graves picked up three victories on Tuesday as the Rams split two duals during their final day of competition in Florida.
The Rams dropped a 6-1 decision to NCAA tournament qualifier Piedmont University, but bounced back to take down Marywood University 6-1. Cornell moves to 13-4 on the year.
In the morning facing Piedmont, No. 2 doubles pair of
Alyssa Flynn &
Jenna Benkufsky rallied for a 6-4 win. M. Graves took a 6-3 6-1 decision in her match at No. 2 singles for the Rams lone point of the dual. The Lions took the rest of the singles matches in straight sets.
Against Marywood in the evening, the Rams grabbed the doubles point thanks to victories by
Tansy Graves & M. Graves 6-1 at No. 1, and by
Isabella Wallin &
Ashley Drake 6-4 at No. 3. Flynn & Benkufsky fell by a narrow margin 7-5 at No. 2.
Cornell won four singles matches in straight sets, by T. Graves, M. Graves, Wallin and Drake. Flynn finished off her last match in a third set tiebreaker.
M. Graves completed her spring break trip with a team best nine wins individually, and has now reached 20 singles wins on the season. T. Graves picked up eight wins on the trip, while Flynn, Benkufsky and Drake rallied for seven victories a piece.
Coming up – Cornell returns home to host a tri against Northwestern (MN) and Loras on March 22.
