BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The Cornell women's tennis team opened the spring 2025 campaign traveling to Bloomington, Illinois, and took a close victory over the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans, 4-3. The Rams (9-3), rallied back from a doubles deficit to take the match.
Freshmen duo
Alyssa Flynn and
Jenna Benkufsky at No. 3 scored the lone doubles match for the Rams, 6-1. The Titans (6-7) took the doubles point after wins at No. 2, and a clinch at No.1, with sophomore
Isabella Wallin and junior
Audrey Small falling 6-4, and sophomores
Mac Graves and
Tansy Graves losing in tiebreaker, 7-6(4).
Down a point, the Rams rallied back to take the meet with four victories in singles. Junior
Ashley Drake started the charge with a decisive win at No. 6, 6-2, 6-1, followed by
Mac Graves at No. 2, 6-1, 7-5. Wallin closed out a close match at No. 5, 6-3, 7-5, and
Tansy Graves clinched the meet at No. 1, proving triumphant in a 7-5, 7-5 victory. Small at No. 3 lost 7-6 (4), 6-1, and Flynn fell at No. 4, 6-2, 6-3.
Coming up – The Rams will be traveling to Orlando, Florida for their annual spring break trip, and will be playing five different teams, starting with Albion College, on Friday, March 7.
