MADISON, Wis. – Cornell's women's lacrosse team carried a two-goal lead into the fourth quarter, although couldn't hang on in Wednesday's 11-7 setback to Edgewood at Reddan Park.
The Rams (7-6 overall, 5-2 NACC) had their four-game winning streak snapped in a matchup between NACC contenders. Edgewood (5-6 overall, 5-2 NACC) moved into a third-place tie with Cornell with two regular-season games remaining.
Cornell senior
Cece Zanoni notched her 27th assist of the season to break her own school record set last spring. She also scored once for the Rams, who led 7-5 with less than 12 minutes to go in regulation.
The host Eagles turned it on late, striking for six unanswered goals during a decisive seven-minute stretch in the fourth period.
Ilsa Jeffery delivered another strong defensive outing for the Rams with five caused turnovers and six ground balls. The junior now owns a NACC-best 46 caused turnovers on the season, three shy of the program record.
Sabrina Ibanez paced Cornell in scoring with two goals and two assists. She also scooped six ground balls.
Natalie Hudgins provided two goals, while
Brynn Miroslavich and
Meg Lewis netted one apiece.
