APPLETON, Wis. – Cornell's baseball team came up empty in a season-ending series this weekend against Lawrence, which clinched the Midwest Conference championship with the three-game sweep at Whiting Field.
The Rams dropped Saturday's doubleheader, 8-3 and 7-1, and fell 10-6 on Sunday.
Cornell concluded the campaign at 14-25 overall, 6-15 in the MWC.
Senior
Kale Rose added two more hits to his record-setting total in his final collegiate game. The left-handed slugger finished with 202 career hits, the most ever by a Cornell baseball or softball player.
Rose earned the distinction by passing Nicole Duncan, who amassed 200 softball hits from 2008-11.
Mason Sellers went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and
Vince Zipperer scored twice in Sunday's finale, which was tied 4-4 through 4 ½ innings. Lawrence (20-17 overall, 14-7 MWC) broke away with a five-run fifth frame, highlighted by a grand slam.
Thomas Hunt pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief for the Rams.
On Saturday, the Vikings outhit Cornell 21-10 in the doubleheader that saw the Rams use nine pitchers.
Sellers had two of Cornell's three hits in the opener.
Sean Alvarez doubled and scored a run.
In Game 2, the Rams received two hits apiece from Zipperer,
Zach Garton and
Seth Beals. Cornell left 13 runners on base.
