Match Recap: Women's Tennis | | Mac Graves

Small garners 100th career win, Rams start 2-0 in MWC

MOUNT VERNON - After enjoying a 4-0 day to open the MWC slate, senior Audrey Small became the 14th women's tennis player in program history to achieve 100 career victories after securing the clinching match against Lawrence at No. 4 singles. Cornell (5-0, 2-0 MWC) defeated two conference foes in Ripon College (0-6, 0-2)  6-1, and Lawrence University (1-4, 0-2), 7-0 to remain undefeated during the fall campaign. 

Small moves into 14th all time on the program's career wins list after surpassing the milestone this afternoon.

Small helped the Rams sweep doubles against the Red Hawks to open play on Saturday, with 6-0 victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. No. 2 doubles finished with a score of 6-1. 

The Rams kept the momentum in singles, with straight sets wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 6 singles. 

In the afternoon, the Rams followed with another doubles sweep against the Lawrence University Vikings, with a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles, a 6-1 at No. 3, and with junior Tansy Graves and freshman Annika Dox pulling out a 6-3 victory at No. 2.

The Rams secured the sweep, with 6 victories in singles. Junior Mac Graves at No. 2, and sophomore Jenna Benkufsky at No. 5, secured 6-0, 6-3, and 6-0, 6-0 wins respectively. At No. 6 singles, junior Isabella Wallin pulled out a close 7-5 first set, and finished the match with a 6-2 scoreline in the second. Sophomore Michaela Clark finished at No. 1, 6-4, 6-3, while Tansy Graves pulled out a three set match, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2. 

Small clinched the match at No. 4 singles, with a 6-2, 6-1 earning her 100th career win as a Ram.

Coming up: The Rams will compete from Sept. 19-22 in Saint Peter, MN, at the ITA Midwest Regional.
