MOUNT VERNON – Cornell senior goalkeeper
Sabrina Ibanez went airborne, stretched out horizontally and deflected an Augustana shot with her right mitt at the 50-minute mark of Sunday's women's soccer match.
It was the 350th career save for Ibanez, making her the all-time leader in Cornell history.
Ibanez finished with 14 saves in only 50 minutes of action on the hot afternoon as Cornell fell 7-1 to the visiting Vikings.
Ibanez broke the program's career record of 349 saves, held by Shawn Becker from 2004-07. Ibanez stopped 13 Augustana shots in the opening half and then captured the record with an athletic save shortly after intermission before being removed from the contest.
Ibanez reached double-digit saves for the third consecutive match and 15th time during her four-year career. She already owned the school record for saves in a season (150 in 2023).
The Rams (2-4) responded well from a 5-0 halftime deficit with a competitive second half. Freshman
Lily Nichols tapped in her first collegiate goal off an assist from
Gracie Abben that put Cornell on the scoreboard at the 49-minute mark.
Augustana (2-3-2) struck twice more in the second half to complete the scoring. The Vikings fired 36 shots on the day, but only nine after intermission.
Gracie Lambrecht led Cornell's attack with six shots, including five on goal.
Coming up – Cornell travels to play UW-Whitewater (3-2-2) at 2 p.m. Saturday in Whitewater, Wis.
