WHITEWATER, WI. – Cornell women's soccer team traveled to Wisconsin on Saturday to face UW-Whitewater at Robert Fiskum Field. This was the first ever meeting between the Rams and Warhawks. The Warhawks (4-2-3) used a strong first half to prevail 5-1.
UW-Whitewater put three goals on the board in the first half, despite strong play from goalkeeper
Sydney Newberg. Newberg picked up three saves in the first half and added nine saves in the second half. Her 12 saves were on 17 shots on goal by the Warhawks.
The Rams (2-5) had two shots on goal, one each from
Eva Plathe and
Gracie Lambrecht.
Cornell picked up their lone goal on an own goal at the 44:18 mark of the second half, when a UW-Whitewater defender made a pass back to their goalie that was misplayed and rolled into the net for a Cornell team goal.
Coming up – The Rams return home Wednesday to face Coe College in a Bremner Cup match at Cornell Soccer Field. Game starts at 4:30 p.m.
