MOUNT VERNON – Cornell junior
Julius Jenkins has been selected to the
D3football.com Team of the Week following a near record-breaking defensive performance in Saturday's Midwest Conference opener with Chicago.
Jenkins was among two defensive ends selected for the national weekly honor. He is the first Cornell player recognized on the D3football.com Team of the Week since defensive lineman Andrew Joseph during Week 1 of the 2017 season.
Jenkins dominated the trenches with a career-high 14 tackles, highlighted by 6.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in the 28-12 setback to the Maroons. He came within 0.5 tackles for loss from Cornell's single-game record held by Nick Hall (1997 vs. Monmouth).
Jenkins' tackle count included seven solo stops. The Rams limited Chicago to 255 total yards in the contest.
Voted the MWC's Defensive Performer of the Week on Monday, Jenkins ranks No. 7 nationally with a conference-best 3.25 tackles for loss per game this season.
The Rams (0-2 overall, 0-1 MWC) travel to play Lawrence (0-2, 0-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday in Appleton, Wis.
