MOUNT VERNON – Freshman
Javier Andrade-Martinez gave Cornell a second-half lead with his first collegiate goal, although the Rams couldn't hold on in Tuesday's 2-1 men's soccer loss at home to Lakeland.
The visiting Muskies (1-1) struck twice in the final 27 minutes, including the game-winner with 7:03 left in regulation. Owen Bishop netted the decisive goal on a breakaway, slipping a low shot past charging Cornell keeper
Jack Massey.
Cornell (0-2) won the time of possession and held an 18-12 advantage in total shots. The Rams attempted 11 shots during a scoreless first half.
Andrade-Martinez put the Rams ahead 1-0 on an assisted goal from
Kyriacos Photiou at the 62-minute mark. But the Muskies were quick to answer, knotting the game at 1-1 less than two minutes later.
The Rams received three shots apiece from Andrade-Martinez, Photiou,
Madiou Diallo and
Tadhg Thompson. Diallo had three shots on goal.
Massey worked all 90 minutes in net for the Rams, recording two saves.
