Rams rally for reverse sweep at Calvin Tournament

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Cornell's volleyball team snatched a thrilling reverse sweep victory in this weekend's Calvin Invitational hosted by Calvin University. 

The Rams knocked off Heidelberg, 20-25, 18-25, 25-14, 26-24, 15-5, in Friday's tournament opener. 

Cornell went 1-2 for the weekend, falling to national votes-getter Calvin, 25-21, 25-14, 25-20, on Friday evening. The Rams dropped a 25-14, 25-17, 25-17 decision to North Park in Saturday afternoon's finale. 

After dropping the first two sets to Heidelberg, the switch was flipped for the youthful Rams. Cornell's attack hit a sizzling .378 for the remainder of the match, including an errorless .556 in the decisive fifth set. 

Sophomore rightside hitter Mia Tubbs (17 kills) and junior setter Nia Howard (45 assists) each set career highs to pace Cornell (4-7) against Heidelberg. 

Outside hitter Hannah Cantwell notched her second double-double this season with 11 kills and 20 digs. Cantwell posted a red-hot .417 hitting percentage. 

Cornell was held to .074 hitting against Calvin (8-2). Ashlin Nottestad led the Rams with 11 kills. 

Tubbs provided eight kills in the setback to North Park (14-2). Sully Downey served two aces. 

Howard delivered a team-best seven aces for the weekend. Ella Becker collected 51 digs.
