LINCOLN, Neb. – Cornell's men's soccer team went down to the wire with Nebraska Wesleyan Sunday afternoon, dropping a 2-1 nonconference battle at Abel Stadium.
Freshman
Kyriacos Photiou got the Rams (2-5) off and running with an unassisted goal only eight minutes into the contest. Nebraska Wesleyan (2-2-3) quickly answered Photiou's second score of the season, tying it at 1-1 just 95 seconds later.
The Prairie Wolves found the back of the net again at the 19-minute mark, which proved to be the difference over the next 71 scoreless minutes as the Rams were dealt their third one-goal loss of the fall.
First-year goalkeeper
Jack Massey gave the Rams another strong outing, posting six saves over 90 minutes. Five of his saves came after intermission.
Cornell finished with nine shots on the day, including two apiece from Photiou and
Justice Toledo.
Nebraska Wesleyan attempted 17 total shots and held a 9-7 edge in corner kick chances.
