MOUNT VERNON - Cornell's men's tennis team played their first dual matches of the fall season on Sunday against visiting Concordia University Chicago. The Rams were clutch down the stretch to secure two victories over the Cougars 4-3 in the first dual, and 5-2 in the second match of the afternoon.
Cornell (2-0) swept all three doubles matches to start the day. Sophomore
Sam Cumicek and freshman Matthew Oshior recorded a 6-2 win at No. 1. Freshman

August Krahn followed suit with a 6-1 win at No. 2. Rounding out the doubles sweep was junior

Eric Dirksmeyer taking a 6-2 decision at No. 3.
The Rams kept the momentum going in singles building to a 3-1 lead after wins by Collyott and Oshiro at No. 2 and No. 5 respectively. The Cougars won three matches of their own to even the meet at 3-3. Sophomore
Benett Gregor provided the clinching match at No. 4 singles with a 7-5 7-6 win for the Rams.
In the second match of the day, Cornell once again gained the doubles point after Oshiro/Gregor at No. 2 and Davis/Dirksmeyer at No. 3 secured 6-4 and 6-3 victories. The Rams closed out another hard fought win after securing victories from Cumicek at No. 1, Collyott at No. 2, Gregor at No. 4 and Oshiro at No. 6.
Oshiro finished his Sunday afternoon with a 4-0 mark, while Gregor captured a 3-0 mark of his own.
Coming up – The Rams travel to Gustavus Adolphus College this week for the ITA Midwest Regional. Play begins Friday morning at 9am.
