Rams notch seven wins at ITA Midwest Regional

Box Score ST. PETER, Minn. – Cornell's men's tennis team racked up seven wins over two days at the ITA Midwest Regional hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College. 

Junior Trent Devore went 1-1 in the main draw of ITA singles. He won his opening match 6-2, 6-2 over Alex Slaymaker of Central College. Devore then fell 6-1, 6-3 in the Round of 64 to #17 seed Andrew Dumbauld of UW-Whitewater. 

First-year Jack Saunders also competed in the ITA singles main draw, dropping a Round of 128 match 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 to Gage Becker of Loras College.

A quartet of Rams competed in the Midwest Open events in various brackets. First-year Henry Lambley won his opening match 7-5, 7-5 over Kai Kringle of Concordia Moorhead. Junior Mills Arnold also won his first round match against Daniel Meunier of St. Olaf 6-4, 7-5. Both Lambley and Arnold fell in their second round matches. Sophomore Andrew Campbell and senior Zachary Ong both dropped their opening singles matches. 

In doubles, the tandem of Devore/Lambley dropped an 8-4 decision to Central College in the ITA main draw doubles field. Ong/Campbell opened doubles play with an 8-4 win over Bethel University, before falling in their second round 8-5 to UW-Superior. 
 
On Saturday in the consolation brackets, all Rams competed in the doubles field. The pairing of Lambley and Saunders won their first two matches over UW-Eau Claire and Ripon 8-4 and 8-6, before rounding out their tournament in the semi-finals in a close 8-5 loss to UW-Whitewater.

Ong/Campbell also won their first round match in the consolation doubles event, taking an 8-4 victory over Ripon. The duo dropped their quarterfinal match to Carroll 8-2. 
 
Coming Up: The Rams will host a scrimmage against the University of Iowa Club team on October 11th.
