RIPON, Wis. – Ripon made the most of its scoring chances and defeated the visiting Rams, 3-1, in Cornell's Midwest Conference women's soccer opener Tuesday at Hopp Stadium.
 
The efficient Red Hawks put three balls in the back of the net, despite attempting only five shots on goal in the match. Cornell (2-8 overall, 0-1 MWC) finished with six shots on goal.
 
Ripon (2-6-2 overall, 1-1 MWC) struck twice in the opening 25 minutes and added another goal shortly after intermission to take a comfortable 3-0 lead.
 
Sophomore 
Eva Plathe put the Rams on the scoreboard with a header at the 51-minute mark. Plathe's fifth goal of the season came off a beautifully placed 40-yard boot from freshman 
Gracie Lambrecht, who recorded her first collegiate assist.
 
Lambrecht finished the day with three shots, all on goal. Plathe added two shots on goal, 
Gwen Westervelt one.
 
Cornell goalkeeper 
Sabrina Ibanez worked all 90 minutes and posted two saves. She faced 14 total shots from the Red Hawks. The Rams had nine shots.
 
Coming up – Cornell travels to play Lawrence (3-3-5 overall, 1-0-1 MWC) at 2 p.m. Saturday in Appleton, Wis.
