MOUNT VERNON – Coe found the end zone quickly on the game's first possession and never relinquished momentum in a 62-6 victory over the Rams Thursday night before a large season-opening crowd at Van Metre Field at Ash Park.
The 134th edition of the oldest college football rivalry west of the Mississippi also marked the collegiate coaching debut for Cornell's
Curt Ritchie, whose young Rams faced an uphill battle against a Coe squad that reached the NCAA playoffs a year ago.
Coe's explosive offense scored touchdowns on its first five series and then got help from its defense with an interception return for a score in building a 42-0 advantage at halftime.
The Rams put their first points on the board late in the third quarter when junior
BooBoo Browning bounced around right end for a 7-yard TD run, making it 42-6.
Cornell was limited to 59 rushing yards on the night and held to 76 yards through the air.
Trey Anderson was Cornell's top ground gainer, netting 35 yards on seven carries.
Senior
Silas Heimos led Cornell's receiving corps with four receptions for 34 yards. Starting quarterback
Thomas Monken went 10-of-18 passing for 54 yards and was sacked five times.
Cornerback
Zavion Jordan recorded a game-high eight tackles – including seven solos – for Cornell's defense.
Jamal Thompson and
Caleb Smith each had one sack.
Cornell senior
Rommel Pinner accounted for 141 total yards on eight kickoff returns.
The Kohawks accumulated 579 yards of total offense. Quarterback Brady Kelly led the charge, completing 16-of-19 passes for 291 yards and three TDs.
Thursday marked the first competition in the 2025-26 Bremner Cup All-Sport Series.
