Cornell’s balanced attack blasts Beloit, 83-53

BELOIT, Wis. – Cornell's men's basketball team rode five double-figure scoring performances to a 83-53 Midwest Conference rout over Beloit Saturday afternoon at Flood Arena.

The Rams (3-14 overall, 2-6 MWC) earned their second consecutive blowout road victory, blitzing Beloit (5-13, 0-9 MWC) with a season-best 66.7-percent mark from the floor. Cornell drained a sizzling 11-of-18 three-pointers. 

Newcomer Garrett Hempen exploded off the bench for a game-high 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Hempen went 4-of-6 from three-point range, adding three rebounds and three assists.

Senior captain Caleb Leslie tossed in 14 points with four 3-pointers. Christian Acevedo turned in a collegiate-best 13 points and six rebounds.
 
Kylen Bonner posted Cornell's first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 assists. Bonner is averaging nearly 20 points per game over his last five appearances. The 6-foot-2 freshman swiped four steals. 

Wayne Jurica tallied 10 points and four steals. Luke Hellige hauled in six boards. 

Cornell led 39-31 at halftime. The Rams doubled up the Buccaneers, 44-22, in the second half.

The Rams limited Beloit to 34.5-percent shooting for the afternoon.

Coming up – Cornell visits first-place Monmouth (14-4 overall, 9-0 MWC) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Monmouth, Ill. The Rams led by as many as 17 points in a 70-67 defeat to Monmouth in the season's first meeting.
