LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Cornell's men's basketball team had a competitive game get away during the middle portion of Saturday's 91-67 Midwest Conference loss to Lake Forest at the Sports and Recreation Center.
The visiting Rams (3-16 overall, 2-8 MWC) took a 30-29 lead on a
Cezer Sotomayor layup with less than two minutes to go in the opening half. Third-place Lake Forest (13-7 overall, 8-3 MWC) responded with a 9-0 run to close the half and then widened the gap with six unanswered points to start the second.
Cornell managed to shoot just 29.4 percent from the field, while the Foresters connected at a 46.8-percent clip.
The Rams drained 21-of-25 free throws, including a 9-of-10 touch by freshman
Kylen Bonner who finished with 13 points. Bonner also snared seven rebounds, sharing team-high honors with freshman
Luke Hellige who netted 11 points with three 3-point goals.
Sotomayor was Cornell's third scorer in double figures with 10 points.
Caleb Leslie added eight points and three steals.
Cristian Acevedo grabbed six boards.
The MWC's highest scoring duo of Cristian Rodriguez and Alex Forowycz combined for 45 points to pace Lake Forest.
