CEDAR RAPIDS – Cornell's dance and cheerleading teams performed well at Mount Mercy's Mustang Invitational Sunday at Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School.
 
The cheerleading team placed second in the Division III category for small and intermediate coed performances. The routine was choreographed by head coach Gabby McCoy.
 
The category consisted of a 2 1/2-minute routine with elements of stunting, jumps, tumbling, cheer and dance. This was Cornell's second year competing and first time in the category.    
 
Members of McCoy's competition cheerleading team included Abby Cracolici, Alice Hunt, Angelica M. Rivera Quiles, Ashley Romero, Bailey DeHart, Camila Vazquez Marrero, Haley Sevenbergen, Indigo Webster, Jacob Ternes, Jessica O'Brien, Maya Neymeyer, Melody Bender, Payton Anderson, Peyton Earle, Valeria Nunez, Victoria Martinez, and Yuli Torres.
 
Cornell's dance team earned first-place finishes in the Division III category in pom and jazz. They took runner-up in hip hop.  
 
Members of the dance team, coached by Paige Busick, featured Anna DeWitt, Linnea Drever, Nikauly Rios, Shanelys Sanchez-Robles, Katie Struck, Indigo Webster, Paola Torres De Jesus, Gabriella Niewoehner and Yaritza Remigio.

Sunday's event was comprised of cheerleading and dance teams from NAIA, Division III, Division II and Community College throughout Iowa and the Midwest.
