Rams post more top marks at Darren Young Classic

GRINNELL – Participating at the Darren Young Classic on Saturday, the Rams continued to improve as they prepare for the MWC Indoor Championship in two weeks.
 
Hadley Beaty continued to re-write the record book, breaking his own 200-meter record by .06 set last week. Beaty finished second to Lucas Fadden (Grinnell) with a time of 22.07.
 
Beaty took first in the 60, crossing the finish line with a time of 6.93.  He was .01 off his school record set earlier this year.
 
Cornell men swept the 400 with Chase Staker crossing the finish line first with a time of 50.21. Jensen Meeker finished second with a season best 50.33 and Jaxin McGuire crossed in third with a season best 50.55.
 
Jake Bach finished second in the 3000 for the Rams with personal best time of 8:31.84. Brody Williams picked up a third-place finish in the weight throw (52-8).
 
Seniors Ava Claussen-Tubbs and Hailey Carolan led the Ram women on Saturday. Claussen-Tubbs finished first in the 800-meters with a season best 2:16.06 and Carolan picked up first in the high jump, clearing 5-3.75.
 
The two seniors were also part of the 4x400 relay that posted a season best 4:08.55, picking up second. Joining Claussen-Tubbs and Carolan on the relay team were sophomore Alexa Hugart and freshman Jayda Carnes.
 
Carnes added a third-place finish in the 200 with a personal best of 26.93.
 
Cornell had a contingent of 5000-meter athletes participate in the Midwest Elite Invitational Friday night in Whitewater, Wis. The women were led by Alyza Koppes finishing with a time of 18:04.43. The men's top finisher was Ethyn Chesnut with a personal best 15:57.91.
 
Coming up – The Rams will have select athletes participating in the Caged Eagle Invitational in La Crosse, Wis. on Friday. On Saturday Cornell will be competing in the Liz Wuertz Invitational in Waverly, events start at 11:00 am.
