WAVERLY – Participating at the Iowa Open in Iowa City on Friday night,
Ava Claussen-Tubbs broke her own 800-meter school record set in 2025 by 1.16 seconds. Claussen-Tubbs finished third behind Kayci Martensen (Drake) and Clare Wright (UNI) with a time of 2:14.77.

Isaac vanWestrienen competed in the 5000 at the Iowa Open. VanWestrienen finished second with a time of 14:07.22, which ranks ninth best in NCAA division III this season.
On Saturday Cornell men set two school records at the Liz Wuertz Invitational hosted by Wartburg inside Hoover Fieldhouse.
Leading the Rams was the 4x400 relay team of
Jaxin McGuire,
Jensen Meeker,
Blaine Dohrmann and
Chase Staker breaking the previous record set in 2025 by .94 seconds, with a time of 3:22.23.
Hadley Beaty lowered his 200-meter school record for the third time this season. Beaty finished third with a time of 22.01, .1 seconds behind the winner Jimmy Weispfenning (Wartburg).
Beaty picked up a second-place finish for Cornell in the long jump, leaping 22-1.
Jake Bach took third in the mile with a personal best 4:14.16 and
Isaac Morris finished fourth in the 5000 (15:50.48).
Competing for the second straight day Claussen-Tubbs led the Cornell women with a first-place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:15.16. Claussen-Tubbs time also surpassed her 2025 school record.
Mackenzie Engbert finished fifth in the mile for Cornell with a personal best 5:12.88 and
Jayda Carnes picked up a sixth-place finish in the 200, crossing the line with a personal record 26.73.
Coming up – The Rams will be competing in the MWC Championships in Grinnell Friday, Feb. 27 and Saturday, Feb. 28. Action will start at 1:00 pm on Friday and 10:30 am on Saturday.
