MOUNT VERNON - Returning back to their home courts, the Cornell men's tennis team continued their spring campaign, dropping a tight battle 5-2 to visiting Central College on Sunday afternoon.
Cornell not only battled on the court, but also battled cancer in their annual cancer awareness match. A tradition that started in 2024, the Cornell tennis programs dedicate a match each season to people all over the world who are fighting cancer, and honor those family members and friends close to the programs who are fighting.
On the doubles court, the Rams (5-5) secured the No. 2 match from freshmen
Jack Saunders and
Henry Lambley 7-6(3). Cornell fell 6-3 at No. 1 and 6-4 at No. 3.
Facing the doubles deficit, the Rams battled back in singles taking two of the six singles bouts.
Trent Devore at No. 1 dominated his match for a 6-2 6-1 victory.
Zachary Ong at No. 4 powered through to a 6-2 6-4 win. Ong earned his 99th career victory with his win this afternoon.
Saunders and Lambley both dropped close decisions in super tiebreakers at No. 2 and No. 3. The Dutch claimed the other two matches in straight sets to clinch.
Coming up - The Rams travel to Orlando, Fla., for their annual spring break trip. The first contested match is Friday against Alma College.
