Risley homers as Rams drop two to Loras

MOUNT VERNON – Cornell softball falls to a tough non-conference foe Loras twice on Sunday afternoon at Ash Park Family Softball Field, game one (7-1) and game two (7-3).

The Rams (9-3) jumped out to an early lead in game two, when Elise Oleson reached second on an error by the left fielder in the bottom of the second. Lauren Summers laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance pinch runner Ella Cooper to third. Brianna Risley finished it off with a home run to center field to give Cornell a 2-0 lead.

Loras (15-3) scored five runs in the top of the third, to secure the win in game two. Cornell added a run in the fourth, when Brooke Furman singled to left field scoring Risley.

Linnea Drever and Risley each had two hits in game two. Alexa Corona, Corrin Kennedy and Furman each had one. Risley scored twice and drove in two runs for the Rams.

The Rams scored their lone run in game one when Corona walked, advanced to second on sacrifice bunt by Peyton Souhrada and scored on a single to right center by Oleson.

Monet Roelle led the Rams with two hits in game one. Corona, Oleson, Summers, Risley and Drever each had one.

Summers pitched five strong innings in relief for Cornell in game one, giving up only one run on three hits.
