MOUNT VERNON – Central plated seven runs with two outs in a game-breaking fourth inning and defeated the host Rams, 12-2, in nonconference baseball action Monday night at Ash Park Field.
Cornell moved to 8-8 on the season, while the Dutch climbed to 7-10.
The Rams trailed 1-0 in the top of the fourth when Central strung together five two-out hits, including a grand slam that put the visitors ahead 8-0.
Cornell's lineup mustered only four hits against four Central pitchers.
Caleb Smith doubled, while
Thomas Hunt and
Jacob Swain each scored a run.
Jasper Hancox had the team's lone RBI.
The Rams used four pitchers in the contest.
Jack Feigl tossed one scoreless inning in relief.
Coming up – The Rams open Midwest Conference play this weekend with a three-game home series against defending MWC regular-season champion Lawrence (3-12) in Mount Vernon.
The teams play a noon doubleheader Saturday, followed by a single game at noon Sunday.
