Rams post many notable marks over busy 2-day stretch

GRINNELL – Cornell's track & field athletes posted impressive marks at four different venues during a busy two-day stretch of meets this weekend.
 
Jake Bach paced a handful of Rams at Friday's UW-Platteville Invitational with a stellar race in the men's 5000. The junior recorded a Top 15 NCAA mark, placing 32nd in a huge 343-man field in 14:30.05.
 
Lidia Dahlman crossed 50th out of 197 finishers in the women's 5000 with a time of 17:40.41.
 
Sophomore Ava Claussen-Tubbs raced to a Top 30 NCAA mark in the women's 800 at Friday's Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines. Claussen-Tubbs was clocked in 2:13.91, taking ninth in a competitive field of 28 runners. She was the top Division III finisher.
 
The Rams landed a pair of runner-up performances in the high jump at Friday's Mount Mercy Distance Carnival. Hailey Carolan cleared a season-best 5-3.75 in the women's competition. Ike Claussen-Tubbs went 6-3.25 to take second in the men's event.   
 
A larger contingent of Rams competed Saturday at the Dick Young Classic in Grinnell. The women finished fifth out of nine teams (58 points), while the men took sixth (40 points).
 
Sophomore Dalles Hernandez posted personal-best times in the men's sprint races. He was runner-up in the 200 (22.57) and finished third in the 100 (10.93).
  
Austin Wilkins placed third in the 400 hurdles (1:02.20) and Brody Williams finished third in the hammer throw (159-5).
 
On the women's side, Carolan claimed runner-up efforts in the 100 hurdles (16.51) and 400 hurdles (1:09.03). Cora Talbert placed third in the 200 (27.52) and ran leadoff on the second-place 4x100 relay (53.07) that included Jayda Carnes, Alexa Hugart and Willow Ziegler.
 
Coming up – Isaac vanWestrienen competes in the 10000-meter run at Thursday's Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. Cornell's full team is at Mount Mercy's DeBacker Invitational next Saturday, April 18, in Cedar Rapids.
