APPLETON, Wis. – Cornell junior slugger
Corrin Kennedy went 6-for-8 at the plate with four extra-base hit in Saturday's 5-9, 7-2 Midwest Conference softball split with Lawrence at Whiting Field.
The Rams (15-9 overall, 3-3 MWC) had a 4-0 lead through 3 ½ innings slip away in the opener. Lawrence (9-15 overall, 2-4 MWC) capped the comeback with a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Kennedy singled, doubled and homered from the No. 3 spot in the lineup. She blasted a two-run homer in the third, her fifth round-tripper of the season. Kennedy also scored twice.
The Rams outhit the home team, 12-6, in Game 1.
Alexa Corona,
Brooke Furman,
Elise Oleson and
Brianna Risley all had two hits apiece. Risley doubled and Furman drove in a pair.
Kennedy tallied three more hits – including two doubles – in the nightcap, which saw junior right-hander
Lexi Ellermeier go the distance in the circle for her team-high eighth pitching win of the season. Ellermeier (8-4) fired six shutout innings before surrendering two in the final frame.
Linnea Drever connected for her fourth homer of the spring, a two-run shot in the seventh.
Lauren Summers had an RBI triple and
Monet Roelle an RBI single in Cornell's four-run seventh that pushed the lead to 7-0.
Peyton Souhrada climbed to No. 3 on Cornell's career list with her 39th double. She was among six Rams to record an RBI in the game.
Oleson singled and doubled for the Rams, who finished with 12 total hits.
Coming up – The Rams are idle until next Saturday's showdown with league unbeaten Illinois College (19-9 overall, 6-0 MWC) in Jacksonville, Ill. First pitch is 1 p.m.
