MOUNT VERNON – The Cornell College women's tennis team continued to add to a record of 22 season dual wins this weekend against the Central College Dutch (7-8), posting a 5-2 scoreline to celebrate a weekend honoring seniors Audrey Small and Ashley Drake for their many years on the team.
The Rams (22-3, 4-2 MWC) started strong with a sweep in doubles, with a quick win from junior pair Mac Graves and Michaela Clark at No. 1, followed by a win at No. 2 from junior Tansy Graves and freshman Annika Dox, 6-1, and 6-2, respectively. Junior Jenna Benkufsky and Small rounded out the sweep with a hard-fought 7-5 victory as well.
The Rams finished the day with singles, started by 6-0, 6-1 scorelines at No. 1 and No. 3 from Clark and Tansy Graves. To secure the match, Mac Graves posted a 6-1, 6-3 score of her own at No. 2, and Dox followed up with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 6 as well. Small and Benkufsky fell in two tightly contested matches at No. 4 and No. 5, 6-1, 6-2, and 6-1, 6-4, respectively.
The Rams improve to 22-3 on the season in duals, and celebrate the senior day of Small and Drake, both a part of Head Coach Trent Schneider's first recruiting class and four-year members of the team.
Small has played as a starter for all four years of her collegiate career, and surpassed 100 career victories this year, rounding out to over 125 wins to finish top 8 in Cornell College women's tennis history.
Drake has finished as an ITA Scholar Athlete, and Academic All-Midwest Conference for all four-years of her collegiate career at the Hilltop.
Coming up – Cornell travels to play Wartburg College and UW-Stevens Point, next weekend in Waverly, IA. First serve is set for 9:00 AM.
