DUBUQUE – Cornell's men's lacrosse team outscored Dubuque over the final 22 minutes, although couldn't make up a large deficit in Wednesday's 19-5 season-ending NACC loss at Oyen Field.
The young Rams finished 3-12 overall, 1-10 in the NACC in coach
Jack Spallone's first season at the helm.
Junior goalie
Nathan Diveley collected 15 saves in three quarters of work, reaching double figures for the 10th consecutive game. He accounted for 229 saves this spring, the third-highest total in school history.
Cornell received one goal apiece from
Brandon Evilsizer,
Kaden Weaver,
Tyler Foster,
Ace Rivera and
Brandon Warnke. Foster accounted for 10 of the team's 34 total shots.
Ben Wojewski won 17-of-28 faceoffs and led the Rams with eight ground balls.
Harry Butterfield had two caused turnovers.
Dubuque (6-10 overall, 4-7 NACC) set the tone early in building a 13-1 halftime lead. The margin grew to 16-1 before Cornell's offense got on track midway through the third quarter.
The Spartans held a 48-27 advantage in ground balls and pressured Cornell into 37 turnovers.
