MOUNT VERNON – Coach
Robbie Dombrowski's Rams won their third conference series of the year by sweeping Ripon (5-26, 3-14 MWC) Saturday at Ash Park Field, 12-2 (8 innings) and 7-5. With the sweep, the Rams find themselves thickly in the hunt for a conference tournament bid.
In game one
Nate Pacetti pitched his second complete game of the season to pick up the win, moving to 4-3 for the season. Pacetti allowed just two runs on eight hits, while striking out five.
The Rams (16-17, 8-8 MWC) closed out the game in the bottom of the eighth, scoring six runs on four hits.
Luke Hull finished the game off when he doubled down the right field line, driving in
Landon Moore and
Thomas Hunt.
Caleb Smith led the Rams at the plate with his third three hit game of the season, driving in two runs and scoring once.
Elias Diaz added two hits for Cornell.
Thomas Hunt and
Luke Hull each doubled, and
Garrett Roehl hit his third home run of the season.
Hunt, Smith, Hull and Roehl each drove in two runs for the Rams.
Seth Lopez,
Jackson Hill and Hunt each scored twice.
The Rams put four runs on the board in the first inning of game two. Hunt started things off by extending his hitting streak to 11 games with a single, scoring Hill. Smith and
Lucas Head both doubled, Smith knocking in a run and Head driving in two.
In the bottom of the second the Rams scored three more runs, which would prove to be enough. Hill, Smith and Hull all singled in the inning. Smith and Hull each picked up an RBI.
Lucas Brutsche pitched seven strong innings to pick up his fifth win of the season. Brutsche surrendered eight hits, while only allowing four runs. Hunt came in, in relief, to pick up his fourth save of the season.
Moore, Smith and Head each had two hits for the Rams. Head and Smith drove in two runs, with Hill, Smith and Hull each scoring twice.
Coming up – Rams try to complete the sweep of Ripon tomorrow at Ash Park Field. Game time is 12:00 pm.
