GALESBURG, Ill. – Cornell's softball team took care of business on the road Sunday and earned a 9-5, 7-1 Midwest Conference sweep over Knox.
Winners of seven of their last eight contests, the streaking Rams (22-12 overall, 9-5 MWC) maintained hold of fourth place in the league race with one crucial doubleheader left against second-place Ripon (9-3 MWC) next weekend.
Hot-swinging
Linnea Drever went 5-for-7 at the plate with five RBIs and four runs in the doubleheader. The junior jacked her team-leading sixth home run in the nightcap while recording her ninth multi-RBI game of the season.
Lexi Ellermeier (9-6) fired all seven innings in the Game 2 victory. She scattered five hits, allowed one run and struck out four. The Rams gave her a 7-0 cushion after four innings.

Monet Roelle all had a double for the Rams, who took advantage of seven errors by Knox (8-26 overall, 2-10 MWC).
Peyton Souhrada stretched her hitting streak to 11 games.
Game 1 was tied 4-4 going into the fifth, when the Rams broke loose for four runs on five hits. Drever and Souhrada both delivered RBI doubles in the decisive frame. Roelle singled home two runs.

Lauren Summers tallied two hits apiece. Drever and Souhrada both doubled twice.
Summers (7-3) notched the pitching win in relief, allowing three hits and only run over the final four innings. She struck out four.
Coming up – Cornell hosts rival Coe (23-13) for a single varsity game at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Van Metre Family Softball Field. The teams will play a JV game at 4 p.m.
