WAVERLY – Cornell's men's soccer team drew a tough opening assignment Tuesday night, falling 3-0 to American Rivers Conference preseason favorite Wartburg at Salzwedel Field.
The Rams (0-1) were limited to five total shots for the match – all in the first half – and couldn't overcome a 2-0 deficit at intermission. Wartburg (1-0) scored the initial goal in the 16th minute and added another at the 20-minute mark.
Junior goalkeeper
Kian Farrell and Cornell's defense held the Knights to one goal over the final 70 minutes. Farrell finished with three saves.
Erwann Hiernaux and
Bruce Songa each accounted for one shot on goal for the Rams.
Mason Parsley,
Tadhg Thompson and
Fox Wight attempted one shot apiece.
