MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's men's soccer team rallied late in the second half and earned a 1-1 draw with American Rivers Conference foe Simpson in Thursday's home opener.
The Rams erased a 1-0 deficit on a left-footed strike from senior
Fox Wight in the 74th minute of regulation. Wight's equalizer found the left corner of the net and was assisted by junior
Luca Carns-Hilliker.
Both teams had scoring opportunities down the stretch before the battle ended in a tie.
Cornell goalkeeper
Kian Farrell came through with a clutch diving save late, capping a strong 90-minute effort. The junior finished with a collegiate-best 10 saves.
Simpson (0-0-1), which beat the Rams 3-0 last year, put the first goal on the scoreboard in the 58th minute. The Storm attempted 17 shots in the match, to Cornell's 12.
Kyriacos Photiou fired a team-high three shots for the Rams.

Tadhg Thompson and Wight each had one shot on goal.
