MOUNT VERNON – A competitive men's soccer match for 40 minutes turned one-sided in favor of Nebraska Wesleyan as the Rams were dealt a 7-0 nonconference loss Tuesday on their home turf.
The Prairie Wolves (2-2-1) led 2-0 at halftime and then took control in the wet conditions with five second-half goals. The final three scores came during a four-minute stretch late in the final period.
Cornell freshman goalkeeper
James Withers recorded a season-high nine saves, working all 90 minutes in his first collegiate start. He saved six shots after intermission.
Tadhg Thompson and
Erwann Hiernaux led Cornell's attack with two shots apiece.
Kyriacos Photiou and Hiernaux each had one shot on goal.
Nebraska Wesleyan outshot the Rams, 26-9, and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kick chances.
