MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's men were shut down by defending Midwest Conference champion Lake Forest, 3-0, in Sunday's MWC opener for both soccer teams at Armstrong Family Field at Mount Vernon High School.
The Foresters (3-3 overall, 1-0) gained early control with a header off a well-placed throw-in in the sixth minute. Lake Forest struck again at the 24-minute mark, building a 2-0 lead it would take into intermission.
Lake Forest's final tally came on an unassisted goal in the 68th minute.

Kian Farrell notched eight saves in a complete-game effort. Lake Forest outshot the Rams, 22-6.
Senior Tadgh Thompson accounted for two of Cornell's shots.
The Rams had four corner kicks, to Lake Forest's three.
Coming up – The Rams (0-5-1 overall, 0-1 MWC) are home Wednesday to face Central in a nonconference match at 5 p.m.
