MOUNT VERNON – In a tightly contested non-conference match against Central on Wednesday night at Armstrong Family Field on the campus of Mount Vernon High School, the Dutch pulled away late to drop the Rams, 3-0.
The first half was scoreless until the 44th minute, when Fernando Reyes scored to put Central (4-2-1 overall) up 1-0 going into half.
Cornell (0-6-1 overall) held the Dutch scoreless for the first 31 minutes of the second half, before Central scored at the 76
th minute mark. Three minutes later Reyes scored his second goal of the game to round out the scoring.
The Rams attempted 18 shots (five on goal) to Central's 28 shots (eight on goal).
Erwann Hiernaux led Cornell with four shots.
Sam Burmeister added three shots and
Tadhg Thompson and
Kyriacos Photiou each had two.
Thompson finished with two shots on goal.
Holden Arthaud-Day, Photiou and Hiernaux each had one.
Kian Farrell played the first half in the net finishing with three saves.
James Withers finished the game for the Rams, coming up with two saves.
Coming up – The Rams face Knox (2-4-2 overall, 1-1 MWC) in a conference match on Saturday at Cornell Soccer Field. Youth Day will be recognized prior to the game. Game time is 11 a.m.
