MOUNT VERNON – Ram's women's soccer team battled hard against conference foe Knox on Saturday at Cornell Soccer Fields, falling 3-0.
Knox (5-4 overall, 3-0 MWC) scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the game, on goals by Sophia Gordoa and Aniela Rossi.
The Rams (2-6 overall, 0-2 MWC) defense stepped up after that, allowing only one goal over the next 80 minutes of play.
Cornell attempted 18 shots for the game, with
Gracie Lambrecht and
Eva Plathe leading the way with four each.
Mia Belitz,
Kiana Garcia Rios,
Ana Munn Carstensen and
Rebecca Huerth each attempted two shots.
Cornell had seven shots on goal. Leading the way for the Rams was Lambrecht with three.
Senior
Sydney Newberg played all 90 minutes in the net for the Rams, finishing with 10 saves on 13 Prairie Fire shots on goal.
Coming up – The Rams travel to Monmouth, IL on Tuesday to face conference foe Monmouth (5-2 overall, 1-1 MWC) at Peacock Memorial Athletic Park. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
