MOUNT VERNON – Cornell women's soccer team faced a strong UW-Whitewater team at Cornell Soccer Field on Saturday. Rams played tough against the Warhawks (2-0) through the early part of the game, before falling, 9-0.
UW-Whitewater put three goals on the board in the first half, despite strong play from senior goalkeeper
Sydney Newberg. Newberg picked up 14 saves in the first half and added 12 saves in the second half. Newberg's 26 saves was a career high.
The Rams (0-3) attempted four shots for the game, with two on goal.
Gracie Lambrecht attempted two shots, one on goal and
Eva Plathe attempted two, one on goal.
The Warhawks attempted 53 shots with 35 on goal. Jenna Laidlaw led UW-Whitewater with three goals and one assist.
Coming up – The Rams are off until Friday, when they face Buena Vista at Cornell Soccer Field. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
