Bennett, a two-time All-Missouri Valley Conference outfielder, enters his first season on Coach Seth Wing’s Cornell baseball staff.
Bennett, a 2011 graduate of Wichita State University, hit .333 in 55 games as a senior for the NCAA Division I perennial power Shockers. He was named Second Team All-MVC as an outfielder in the 2010 season, which saw the team finish 40-20.
Bennett played his junior season at the University of Northern Iowa. The Cedar Rapids native was tabbed 2009 MVC Newcomer of the Year and Second Team All-MVC after batting .338 with 67 hits and 43 RBIs for the Panthers.
Bennett enjoyed two successful seasons at Kirkwood Community College, where he was named a 2007 NJCAA First Team All-American during his freshman year. As a freshman, Bennett established a Kirkwood record for hits in a season with 82. He totaled 149 hits, 100 runs and 89 RBIs in his two seasons at Kirkwood.
Bennett was a two-time first team all-state selection at Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School. He set the school’s single-season hits record (73) as a senior.
Bennett served as assistant baseball and football coach at Cedar Rapids Jefferson during the 2013-14 school year. He currently resides in Cedar Rapids.
