Martinez is in his first season on Cornell's baseball staff as infield and hitting coach.
Martinez carries 14 years of high school coaching experience, including nine as associate head coach at Iowa City Regina. He has been on Iowa City Regina's staff since 2004, guiding the Regals to three conference titles and one district crown. Martinez was named 2009 Southeast District Assistant Coach of the Year by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.
Martinez, a 1993 graduate of Columbus Junction High School, served as head baseball coach there from 1999-2003. More than 20 of his former players at Columbus Junction and Iowa City Regina have gone on to play baseball at the collegiate level.
Martinez has worked on the University of Iowa's baseball camp staff for eight years. He's been involved with Diamond Dreams Sports Academy in Iowa City as hitting and infield instructor for more than 10 years.
He earned an associate's degree in elementary education from Kirkwood Community College in 1995. Martinez graduated from the University of Iowa in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. He received his Masters of Education in Collaborative Teaching from Graceland University in 2007.
Martinez currently teaches in the Iowa City school district. He and his wife, Carrie, reside in Iowa City with their two daughters, Ellie, 7, and Maisie, 3.
