Suchomel joined Cornell’s staff in 2025 as assistant defensive backs coach.
Suchomel carries five decades of coaching experience, including an impressive six-year stint as head coach at Westwood (Ariz.) High School where the program compiled a 47-22 record from 2000-05. He led Westwood to a state runner-up finish in 2000, while the 2005 squad went 12-1 and reached the state semifinals.
Suchomel was defensive coordinator on state championship football teams at Mesa (Ariz.) High School in 1990 and 1992. He was head track & field coach for Westwood’s state championship teams in 1998 and 1999. Suchomel was named Arizona Track Coach of the Year in both of his title seasons.
Suchomel also had high school coaching stops at Liberty (2023), West Branch (2020-21), Gilbert (2018-19), Queen Creek (2013-17) and Red Mountain (2007). As defensive coordinator at Queen Creek (Ariz.), the program qualified for the playoffs five consecutive seasons, highlighted by a state runner-up showing in 2013.
Suchomel graduated from the University of Dubuque in 1975. He received his master’s degree from Loras College in 1999.
