Payan, a 2018 graduate of St. Ambrose University, joined Cornell’s men’s basketball staff in the 2018-19 season.

Payan was a four-year player at St. Ambrose, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management with a minor in leadership.

Payan is the assistant director of TNT5 Basketball in Cedar Rapids and coach of the program’s 15U team. In 2018, he was assistant director of Mercury Elite West Basketball in Sterling, Ill. Payan coached the AAU team Sauk Valley Magic in 2016-17.

A 2014 graduate of Sterling Newman High School, Payan gained honorable mention all-state honors his senior season. Payan helped lead Sterling Newman to the Three Rivers Conference championship and a berth in the Elite 8 in Class 2A during the 2013-14 season.

Payan is USA Basketball gold certified.
