Kintzel comes to Cornell after a successful stint as head girls basketball coach at Mount Vernon High School.

Kintzel guided the Mustangs to a glossy 102-19 record in five seasons (2007-12), capped by a Class 2A state championship in 2010. He took Mount Vernon back to the state title game in 2011 and finished second in Class 3A. The Mustangs captured conference championships in 2007, 2011 and 2012 under Kintzel's guidance.

Kintzel gathered nine coach of the year awards from various media outlets from 2010-12. He was twice honored as Iowa Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Coach of the Year.

Kintzel was inducted into Mount Mercy College's Athletics Hall of Fame in 1992, following a decorated playing career with the Mustangs from 1983-85. As a senior, Kintzel was named NAIA Honorable Mention All-American while leading the team in scoring and rebounding. During that season, he was tabbed first team all-conference and was a unanimous choice for all-district.

Kintzel graduated from Mount Mercy in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in business administration.

Kintzel and his wife, JoAnn, have two daughters: Shelby and Courtney. Both play volleyball at the University of Northern Iowa.
